She
was purchased because I wanted to spend time with my wife.We spent a long
time trying to find that special horse. Viewing tapes, getting advice,
searching and studying. We were looking for Toronado (Zorro's horse)
yet with the temperament of a kitten. After many weeks, my wife found
a horse on the web that was close. A young, dark bay, Hanoverian mare.
OK, so it was a little bit off. Anyway, the picture was pretty and
since we had looked at every horse that was the opposite of her, we
went off to see her.
We
watched her ride with her coach. I filmed her and my wife attempted to
ride her. All the time, I am thinking this is too much horse for me.
Time came to take her tack off. She was on crossties and I came close
for the first time, our eyes met and it was like I met my wife the
first time. Now the hard part was to make a deal for her. Hard because
I decided that we were going to be together. This is not a good base
to start negotiating. However, her owner, Liz Golas, was not one to
take advantage and a deal was made.
In
her first year of showing Schatzie was the Ottawa Area Dressage
Group, National Champion for the open training class. In 2006, we bred her to DeNiro and in 2007 she gave us an
amazingly beautiful filly, Donnerz Dream.
Schatzie has an amazing desire
to work.She was ridden
regularly throughout her pregnancy and is now back in work, being
ridden by Kelsey Baker.Kelsey
and Schatzie are forging a bond and working hard toward their goal of
showing in the dressage ring this year.
For fun, last time Tim
Grosse came to the barn for a clinic Kelsey and Schatzie shared a
jumping lesson with Meagan and Zanna.Schatzie took to the jumps like a pro and Tim could not believe
how scopey she was for a ‘dressage horse’.
