Benita came to us courtesy of Sue Jodice.
Sue and Benita were a team for over eight years of flat work, low jumpers,
hunt style cross country and beach rides. When Benita suffered a recurring
injury, Sue contemplated their future between an extended layoff for two years
or as her trainer's daughter suggested, a new career as a broodmare. After
much consideration, Sue decided to pass on the wonderful character and
physical genes of Benita to other horses to allow others to experience the
same sense of completeness she has enjoyed with Benita over the years.
Fortunately, her search for the ideal place for Benita to embark on her new
career ended with us. She visited our small farm and she decided Canada would
be a nice place for her Benita. Not only did we gain a beautiful mare but good
friends.
Benita is a registered Oldenburg (GOV).
Her sire Benvolio (AKA Bon Ami) was known for his dressage and was the Hanover
Young Horse Champion in 1987. He placed first in six out of six Fourth Level
dressage classes. He was a high score winner at many top shows with scores in
the 70%'s.
He completed his dressage training through Prix St. Georges and
Intermediare I prior to his retirement to stud. He has inherited his sire's
extraordinary movement and has a most lovable, tractable temperament.
Prior to his recent death Benvolio stood at stud at Cornell University.
In 2008, Benita gave
birth to the amazing filly Dieudonné.
Benita is a wonderful mom and Dobby has incredible confidence and
security of her place in the world.
Benita
will soon be started back into light work and leave motherhood for now and
return to the world of long hacks and adult company.
